Why West Ham offering David Moyes a new deal is the right move by the club
According to Daily Mail, David Moyes is in no rush to begin talks over a new contract at West Ham. A talk of a contract has floated around after a recent run of good results.
Profile
David Moyes’ managerial career stretches way back to 1998 when he was in charge of Preston North End, which was his first role as a manager. However, it was at Everton where his prominence and longevity came to the fore.
He managed Everton for a good 11 seasons before he took over at Manchester United following Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement. Safe to say it was one of the worst mistakes of Moyes’ career.
He hardly lasted for 10 months before being let go. His next assignment would be in Spain with Real Sociedad. Within a year, he was again let go after a string of poor results.
Moyes was back in England with Sunderland and that too lasted a season as he could not save the club from relegation. Finally, he’s settled in well at West Ham after saving the club from a probable relegation. He has also managed to get good results this term.
Is it the right move from the club?
When a manager performs well and exceeds expectations, there is naturally a talk about a new contract. The club is in a good state for the first time in ages and Moyes has actually done some good work.
He has fostered good team spirit within this group and they all look like they are united in their cause. Sure there is room for improvement in some areas of the pitch but that is normal for a mid-table club like West Ham.
Verdict
The attack looks decent, the midfield looks industrious and the defense looks better compared to recent seasons. The club has given Moyes the players he has wanted and the results are there to see. The team look like they have belief more than anything.
