Why West Ham should go all out to sign Tomas Soucek from Slavia Prague
According to Football.London, West Ham are interested in signing midfielder Tomas Soucek from Slavia Prague.
Valued at around €25m, the report mentions that the Hammers could sign him for half the price. An initial loan deal with an option to buy at the end of the campaign could be orchestrated but nothing has been confirmed, Football.London understands.
Tomas Soucek, 24, has been in excellent form for Slavia Prague this season, scoring eight goals in 17 league appearances. He has also done well in the Champions League, scoring two goals in eight games.
The report adds the Hammers are desperate to sign a midfielder this month. Declan Rice may not have enjoyed the best of seasons but he has been a regular fixture. Mark Noble will turn 33 in May and is slowly entering the twilight of his career. Jack Wilshere has struggled with injury problems since joining from Arsenal on a free transfer in 2018, while Carlos Sanchez remains out of favour.
With Rice and Noble struggling to perform in the midfield, signing a new midfielder should be a priority before the transfer window ends. That being said, West Ham should make a move for Tomas Soucek.
Soucek is an experienced midfielder, who has been consistently delivering the goods for Slavia Prague since joining from Slovan Liberec in the summer of 2017. He has earned 25 caps for his country. Despite being a defensive midfielder by trade, the Czech Republic international has netted 12 goals and supplied three assists in 26 appearances across all competitions. Last season, he bagged an impressive 18 goals and 9 assists in 49 games.
West Ham don’t have a goalscoring midfielder to ease the burden off the forwards’ shoulders. To that end, Soucek is the type of midfielder that the East London outfit are missing — a player who not only shields the backline but also delivers goals.
Verdict
At the age of 24, Soucek represents a great option for West Ham, given their ongoing issues in the midfield unit. Thus, Moyes must do everything possible to get a deal over the line for the Czech midfielder this month.
