West Ham United Opinion: Kaldirim would be a statement signing

According to a recent report by the BBC, Turkish international full-back Hasan Ali Kaldirim is being linked with a possible summer move to the Premier League with West Ham United said to be quite keen on the Fenerbahce man’s services. It has been suggested that the Hammers chiefs have already held conversations with the player’s agent while he is said to be quite keen on a move to England.

Kaldirim is the skipper of the Fenerbahce team and he’s the only player from the side away on international duty ahead of the Euro 2020 qualifiers. The 29-year-old is a left-back by trade but is more than capable of being utilised in a holding midfield role. His contributions to the Fenerbahce side over the years have earned him a lot of plaudits along the way.

Born in Germany, it was actually at German club Kaiserslautern that he had his first break as a professional footballer. After impressing during his academy days, he went on to join the reserve system at FSV Mainz in the summer of 2009. His stay in Mainz was extremely short-lived as he was sold to Turkish side Kayserispor within 6 months of signing him.

After a season and a half at the Turkish outfit, he finally got his move to Fenerbahce in the summer of 2012 and since then, he’s grown into one of the most important and influential members of the squad. His assured displays on the left side of defence have won the Turkish outfit a multitude of games and his work-rate complements the tactics on display
as well.

It has been suggested that the player has a release clause in the region of £4m embedded into his contract which is set to expire in a year’s time. Although that’s not peanuts, considering that West Ham United are a Premier League club, shelling out that much money to secure the signing of a talented player makes complete sense.

The Turkish international has featured in 30 games for his country and he’s even managed to score a goal along the way. His Fenerbahce career have resulted in a total of 5 goals alone the way but this season, he’s managed to get 2 goals and 3 assists from 31 league games. His numbers suggest a player who still had a lot to offer.
