West Ham Opinion: Why the Hammers should make a move for Ante Rebic?

According to January’s report from the Daily Mail, Eintracht Frankfurt star Ante Rebic admitted he fancies a move to England in the future.

Ante Rebic, 25, impressed for Croatia at the World Cup, scoring a wonder goal against Argentina and helping his side reach the finals in Russia. His performances in the World Cup didn’t go unnoticed as Tottenham and Arsenal both showed huge interest in the Croatian winger last summer, while Manchester United were also linked with a move.

The forward, though, remained at Frankfurt and has been in smashing form in the Bundesliga. But as Rebic has admitted the lure of Premier League football and his desire to experience it, West Ham should plot a summer swoop for the Croat.

West Ham endured a dismal start to the 2018/19 campaign, losing first four games under Manuel Pellegrini but managed to recover as the season progressed. They currently find themselves ninth in the table, four points adrift of eighth-placed Watford.

But to improve next season, the Hammers will need to invest heavily again. Scoring goals have been a problem for West Ham, with neither Javier Hernandez nor Andy Carroll contributing a lot this season. West Ham fought tooth and nail to keep Marko Arnautovic at the club in January after intense interest from an unnamed Chinese side.

Even though Arnautovic stayed put and signed a new contract with the club, there are no guarantees he’ll stay at West Ham beyond this season. That makes signing a creative, goal-scoring attacker very important for the Hammers if they are to establish themselves as a top-eight side in the Premier League.

Rebic would fit the bill perfectly at the London Stadium. The Croat is an aggressive, pacey, agile and intelligent forward, blessed with good technique and fantastic first touch. He possesses electric pace and his movement in the final third makes him such a reliable attacking outlet for teams during counter-attacks.

The Croatian international is excellent at picking up important spaces behind the defenders and bringing his teammates into play. He is an all-rounder who not only is a deadly finisher in front of goal but also is adept at slipping through incisive passes for his teammates in the final third.

Blessed with good strength, pace, power, vision and an eye for goal, Rebic could give West Ham a different dimension in attack and combine excellently with the likes of Felipe Anderson, Robert Snodgrass and Manuel Lanzini.

Conclusion

The 25-year-old is at the right age to make the next move in his career and he could be an exciting attacking option for West Ham.

If Rebic can continue to impress for Frankfurt until the end of the season, the Hammers should make his signing one of the priorities ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.
