West Ham United hoping to beat Liverpool to the signing of Sparta Prague star Adam Hlozek

According to Football Insider (h/t Liverpool Echo), West Ham United are planning on beating Liverpool to the signature of Sparta Prague ace Adam Hlozek. The young striker has become quite a hit in the Czech league but could be out of the door soon.

One of Sparta Prague’s very own, Adam Hlozek developed in the club’s academy setup. He was promoted to the senior team in 2019 as a 17-year-old. He has since become one of the most feared strikers in the country as he fired Sparta Prague to a 2nd place finish in the league last season. However, he has now caught the attention of a couple of English clubs.

Is it time for him to make the switch to one of Europe’s Top 5 Leagues? Would this be the right move for West Ham United?

West Ham United could use some firepower in their frontline

The centre-forward was promoted to the senior team in 2019, and he showed his true quality last season. Hlozek bagged 15 goals and 8 assists in 19 league games, thereby contributing to nearly 30% of the club’s goals (82). He looks like he is hungry for more this season as he has already scored 4 goals and provided 7 assists in 14 games

This bodes really well for West Ham, who could use the services of a player like the Czech international. While numbers aren’t enough to justify a transfer alone, it’s always a bonus signing an attacker who knows where the net is. The London club is on the rise as they are currently in the Top 4 of the Premier League, ahead of Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester United. They are also competing in Europe this season and need depth in their squad.

Currently, David Moyes only possess Michail Antonio as an out-and-out centre-forward. Andriy Yarmolenko looks off the paces, while Jarrod Bowen’s qualities might be more useful out on the wings. The Hammers sold Sebastian Haller this summer after he failed to cut it in the top division of English football.

Moreover, they already have good knowledge of the Czech market. The East London outfit has signed Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal while they also signed Alex Kral on a loan deal in the summer. Czech business Daniel Kretinsky also recently purchased a  27% stake in the club, further indicating the country’s ties with the club.

Thus, they could now add another name to that list by bringing in Hlozek in January as they look to maintain a Top 4 challenge over the course of the season. Not to mention, it could also help Hlozek settle in well at the club, especially off the pitch.

West Ham United shall have to prise Adam Hlozek away from Liverpool

The Hammers have intensified their interest in the Czech star but shall face staunch competition from Liverpool. The Anfield outfit has built a formidable side under Jurgen Klopp but only made a single addition this summer. They could be looking to add to their frontline soon and could offer the prospect of competing for major titles- something they have done under Jurgen Klopp in recent years.

While West Ham may not be odds-on to win any competition they participate in right now, David Moyes is doing a phenomenal job of ensuring that the club is punching above their weight and competing amongst the big boys. Additionally, Liverpool’s top-class front three, four if we include Diogo Jota, could mean that West Ham may offer a good shot at minutes, at least in the short run.

Mid-season additions are nearly always helpful, especially when one signs a young and exciting striker. The club is building something really promising at the London Stadium, and Hlozek could add to this and further their cause of playing in Europe’s premier competition in the coming years.
