West Ham Opinion: Why Isaac Hayden will be a good fit for the Hammers?

According to a report from The Telegraph, West Ham are one of the clubs that could make a move for Newcastle United midfielder Isaac Hayden in the summer.

The 24-year-old has been outstanding in the Magpies’ midfield since the turn of the year. Nevertheless, The Telegraph reports that Isaac Hayden is keen to leave St James’ Park this summer due to personal reasons.

The report claims newly-promoted Norwich City and Brighton are also interested in Hayden, who is valued at between £15 million and £20 million.

Hayden has been one of the surprise packages of the season in Newcastle’s midfield. The Englishman started the season as a squad player, but he has dished out strong performances in the second half of the season and established himself as a mainstay at the heart of midfield.

Well, that should be enough for West Ham to make a move for the ex-Arsenal starlet, as Manuel Pellegrini needs to sort out his midfield problems over the summer.

The Hammers need reinforcements in midfield in the summer. The club’s signing of Jack Wilshere has been a flop, due to the midfielder spending the majority of the season on the treatment table. Skipper Mark Noble is on the wrong side of 30 and Pedro Obiang has failed to deliver consistently.

Declan Rice has been one of the very few consistent players for the Londoners this campaign. The 20-year-old has impressed with his strong displays in midfield and losing him would be a massive blow. Thus, Pellegrini should do everything in his powers to keep hold of Rice and bring in a long-term replacement for Noble.

A player like Isaac Hayden can add a lot of value to West Ham’s midfield. The 24-year-old is an underrated player, who seems to always give his 100% on the pitch, no matter what the circumstances are. The Englishman’s energy and work ethic, combined with his passing range and understanding of the game should make him a good addition to West Ham.

Hayden’s range of passing is good and he has the ability to pick out a pass from distance without much fuss. A decent tackler, the former Arsenal man likes to keep things simple in the engine room to ensure his team ticks over. All in all, the Chelmsford native would be a solid signing for West Ham that could potentially form a great partnership alongside Declan Rice in the middle of the park.

Verdict

Manuel Pellegrini needs to solve his team’s midfield conundrum and Hayden could well be the missing piece in the jigsaw for the Hammers. The Englishman’s technical ability along with his aggression and tackling traits will benefit Pellegrini’s side massively next season.
