What is colorectal cancer? Walking Dead actor Erik Jensen diagnosed with stage 4 cancer

Colorectal cancer is the same as colon cancer and actor Erik Jansen has been diagnosed with it

Walking Dead and Mr Robot star Erik Jensen has been diagnosed with stage IV colorectal cancer.

Jensen’s family and friends set up a GoFundMe page for him with a target of $300,000.

There have been 783 donations so far with $117,510 being raised for the actor. His wife, Jessica Blank, set up the account and added that Jensen had survived a brain aneurysm 18 months back.

Erik Jensen now has stage IV colorectal cancer, and the GoFundMe page adds that he also has a 13-year-old daughter Sadie.

There is some positive news for Jensen. The page claims that Jensen is “young and strong” and worked throughout his chemotherapy.

The doctors also believe they can shrink his tumours enough to ensure they can be taken out after two major surgeries. However, the couple added that they are freelance artists and they don’t have a “cushion” of long-term contractual work.

The family did add that Stage IV wasn’t a death sentence and Jensen was fighting hard to stay positive and work through this diagnosis.

Erik Jensen has worked in several big shows but hasn’t been a regular for many of them. He has had roles on NCIS: Los Angeles, Law & Order: Criminal Intent, The Mentalist, 30 Rock, It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Blacklist and even Mindhunter.

He has also worked in several movies and has acted in several stage shows as well.

A lot of stars came out in support of Erik Jensen as well, and here is one from social media.

What is colorectal cancer?

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention describes colorectal cancer or colon cancer as a disease where cells in the “colon or rectum grow out of control.”

Screening tests can find these abnormal growths, called polyps, and they can be removed before they turn into cancer.

Some of the symptoms of colorectal cancer include a change in bowel habits, blood in stool or during bowel movements, diarrhoea, constipation, abdominal pain, aches or cramps and unexplained weight loss.

The risks of colon cancer increase as you get older or if your family has a history of colon cancer or even polyps.

Other lifestyle factors include a lack of exercise, a diet which is low in fruit and vegetables, a low-fibre and high-fat diet, obesity, and alcohol and tobacco consumption.
