Did Tony Ferguson suffer an eye injury against Bobby Green at UFC 291?
The main card of UFC 291 had several interesting fights. The BMF title was on the line as Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje fought each other for the second time in their career.
Jan Blachowicz also took on Alex Pereira where Pereira had moved up a weight class to light heavyweight.
However, a lot of eyes were on Tony Ferguson vs Bobby Green. The two veterans were set to put on a show, especially after coming off losses in their previous fights.
Ferguson, who was on a five-fight losing streak started on fire. However, his dominant start was halted by an eye poke from Green.
Green tried to keep some space between himself and his rival, but he ended up poking the eye of Ferguson.
El Cucuy needed a time-out and a doctor’s visit before he was able to continue. Ferguson seemed to be struggling with the eye poke for a while and there was quite a bit of swelling under his right eye.
He was also seen shaking his head, and the injury seemed to affect the veteran for the rest of the fight.
A lot of fans were not happy with what had transpired. Ferguson was doing extremely well during the fight but the eye poke changed the complexion of the clash.
Green was able to land quite a few blows after the poke, and the fans had a real go at the veteran for this move.
The fight almost went the entire distance, however, Green was able to pull off the win via submission.
Ferguson tried to stay in the fight and was down to the last 10 seconds but the referee called the fight off.
This was Ferguson’s sixth straight loss, and it will be interesting to see what is next for him.
