Sasha Banks was to face Bianca Belair but what happened as she missed SummerSlam
Sasha Banks vs Bianca Belair was one of the top matches that people were looking forward to at WWE SummerSlam 2021.
Banks had been away from WWE since losing to Belair at WrestleMania 37. However, The Boss returned recently to ignite a feud with the champion.
Banks and Belair brought the house down at WrestleMania and many expected the same at SummerSlam.
However, things didn’t look good for the match as Banks was pulled out of some house shows before the PPV.
Belair appeared on the last episode of SmackDown as she defeated Carmella and Zelina Vega but there was no sign of Banks.
WWE didn’t even announce on the day of the card the condition of Banks. And it was up to reporters such as Sean Ross Sapp to confirm that Banks was missing from the PPV.
PWI had reported a few days back that the pair were cleared to perform but there was a possibility the match would be off.
Some reports have suggested that Banks could have contracted Covid but nothing has been confirmed by any party.
It is difficult to say if this is injury related too since WWE confirms such injuries well in advance. It was left to the announcer to confirm that Banks was out of the match and that left many fans upset.
However, there was a surprise as Carmella made her way to the ring to challenge Belair. Many fans booed this decision before another big surprise came with Becky Lynch getting a rapturous ovation.
The Man had been out of the WWE ring for more than a year since she gave birth and she destroyed Carmella to take her place.
Belair, for her part, said yes and the match was set. However, this was a squash as Lynch became the new SmackDown Women’s Champion.
WWE might have saved a bit of its face by doing this move, but certainly they could have communicated the Banks news better than how they did.
