Here is all you need to know about UFC Heavyweight Augusto Sakai’s MMA record

How much of a roller coaster ride has it been for Augusto Sakai? With a staggering MMA record, he was set to go big in UFC. He started off pretty well but since his 5th fight in UFC, it’s been a downslide for Sakai.

Augusto Sakai Early MMA career

Before getting into the UFC, Augusto Sakai had won 8 fights, lost 1 and drew 1. Most of the wins were by knockouts and that added a little bit of attention towards him. Whenever a fighter gets into UFC, fans will be eager to know what the fighter has got.

The Brazilian made his debut at UFC in 2018 and won four straight matches. Cancellation of the fights, postponement and rescheduling those fights have been a thing for Augusto in UFC.

Although the first 4 fights went in favour of Augusto, he faced a veteran in Alistair Overeem on Sep 5, 2020 at UFC Fight Night. He was dominated by the veteran in that fight. He lost the fight via technical knockout in the first round. This is where the downslide began for Augusto which he hasn’t recovered from.

His MMA record reads 15 wins, 4 losses and 1 draw.

UFC 269

There was a huge build-up to the fight between Augusto Sakai and Tai Tuivasa for UFC 269. Augusto, himself opened up that he would be looking to come back on the winning track as he is not used to losing. But it was the other way around at the fight night. Tai Tuivasa got all over Augusto Sakai and knocked Augusto in the second round.

Augusto Sakai has a huge ladder to climb to get himself into the centre stage. He is at the 14th spot in terms of rankings in the heavyweight division. If he had won the fight against Tai Tuivasa, it would have been totally a different scenario. But it happened the other way around. Sakai will be looking to find a way to win his next fight or else UFC will probably look beyond him.
