Justin Gaethje is one of the top names in the UFC and he has a great MMA record
Justin Gaethje is one of the biggest names in the UFC Lightweight division and has taken the promotion by storm.
The American currently holds an MMA record of 22 wins and three losses. His UFC record at the moment is five wins and three losses.
The 31-year-old was a champion in another promotion before moving to the UFC in 2017. Gaethje also has a background in high school wrestling and he also worked in a copper mine with his father when he was 18.
Hard work has been the key for Gaethje in his MMA career and he isn’t taking anything lightly. The 31-year-old might have a wrestling background but his fighting style involves a lot of hits and kicks.
Starting off with a bang
Gaethje started off his MMA career by debuting in ROF. His first clash was against Kevin Croom in 2011 and he won his first seven fights before moving to the World Series of Fighting.
There, he won his next 11 fights to amass a record of 18 wins and no losses. He won the WSOF Lightweight Championship by defeating Nick Newell in 2014.
Gaethje defended the title five times successfully before vacating it to get his crack in the UFC.
A bump in the road
Gaethje made a huge impression in his first outing as he defeated Michael Johnson at The Ultimate Fighter: Redemption Finale.
The 31-year-old then lost his next two fights against Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier. The loss to Poirier was a turning point in Gaethje’s life as he then went on a four-fight winning streak.
James Vick, Edson Barbora, Donald Cerrone and Tony Ferguson were all put to the sword.
Gaethje had his biggest fight against Khabib Nurmagoemdov at UFC 254. However, he was submitted in the second round and couldn’t get the belt from the Russian.
Justin Gaethje next fight
Justin Gaethje last fought UFC Lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov. Khabib came into this fight undefeated in his MMA career and had a record of 28 wins and no losses.
This was for the undisputed UFC Lightweight title and took place at Fight Island at UFC 254. However, Gaethje lost this clash and there is no news of who he will fight next.
