Four-time Grand Slam winner Kim Clijsters announced that she is stepping away from tennis for the third time in her career on Wednesday. The former World No. 1 initially retired in 2007 to start a family and then returned back in 2009 and won three more Grand Slams before retiring for the second time in 2012.

Clijsters’ final WTA match was back in October 2021, when she suffered a three-set loss to Katerina Siniakova at the Indian Wells. In total, Clijsters won 41 WTA singles titles, including the season-ending Tour Finals in 2002, 2003 and 2010. The tennis legend took to social media to announce her third retirement, which is expected to be her last one as well.

On her Instagram account, she wrote, “I want to share with you that I have decided to no longer play official tournaments. I can’t wait to see what new adventures will cross my path. Thank you to everyone who has supported me over the past two years“.
