Each Conor McGregor tattoo has a story behind it (well, almost…)
UFC icon Conor McGregor has made his name by trash-talking opponents outside the octagon, and laying them flat on the mat inside it. With the MMA fighters wearing nothing but wrestling shorts, their bodies are on display more than most sportspersons.
And innumerable wrestlers have inked their bodies, with many of them becoming so iconic that all you would need to identify the fighter is just one glance at one of their tattoos. One such UFC fighter is Conor McGregor.
He made his debut in UFC in April 2013, when he had next to no tattoos. As time went on, he got more and more inked. And now, these tattoos are synonymous with his larger than life image.
Here, we take a closer look at each tattoo that Conor McGregor has on his body.
Conor McGregor Chest Tattoo
Conor McGregor has a tattoo of a Silverback Gorilla on his chest which is wearing a crown. It also has a heart in its mouth. The tattoo is a modified version of the logo of Coach John Kavanagh’s Straight Blast Gym.
Conor McGregor Back Tattoo
Conor McGregor has an unexplained back tattoo. The Notorious One sports a tattoo of a crucifix at the top of his back, with a row of thorns running down his spine.
McGregor is yet to clarify why he got that one but it is most probably represents his religion, Christianity.
Left Forearm Tattoo
Conor McGregor’s left arm has three five intertwined tattoos. One features a clock with roses, with the time stopped at 03:35 (significance unknown).
It continues to another rose on the back of his forearm, with a knife at the heart of it. Besides it is a small boxing figure, and a gentleman sporting a top hat.
On top of all of these tattoos is a tattoo which says “slow is smooth, smooth is fast”, a common Navy SEALs quote.
Abdomen Tattoo
Conor McGregor sports another iconic tattoo on his torso. There is a large tattoo of a tiger, which McGregor says he randomly decided to get in Venice because of the animal being courageous, on his abdomen.
Above it is ‘McGregor’ written in a stylized form, and below it is his most recent tattoo, which states his nickname, ‘Notorious’.
Left Heel Tattoo
Just above his left heel is a tattoo in Arabic. McGregor says this was the first tattoo he got and it was when he was drunk in Cyprus. He says he himself doesn’t what it says and that it could mean anything.
Conor McGregor would be in the spotlight once more this weekend as he gears to take on Dustin Poirier at UFC 257. The winner would surely be the first in line to earn a shot at the UFC lightweight title currently held by Khabib Nurmagomedov.
