3 Positions that Tottenham boss Mourinho needs to strengthen
Tottenham were in sublime form last season under Mauricio Pochettino as they reached the Champions League final and finished 4th in the Premier League table.
However, they struggled to cope with the same from earlier in the campaign as they were languishing in the bottom half of the table. Pochettino lost his job and Jose Mourinho’s arrival initially brought a change. But as the season progressed, the manager had to do with a lot of injuries and has struggled to find the right combination.
There are several key positions that Mourinho has to address, first and foremost. They have lacked depth in the squad and that has made them vulnerable in recent weeks. They have currently fallen to 8th position in the league table after failing to win any of the last three league games.
Let’s take a look at 3 key positions where Mourinho has to increase the depth to fare better next campaign.
Right-back
Kieran Trippier was ever-present for the Lilywhites last term and he played a crucial role at both ends of the pitch. Ever since he left, Tottenham have struggled, with only Serge Aurier available for that role.
Kyle Walker-Peters went out on loan for regular game time, leaving Aurier to do the job on his own. The Ivorian has been a regular, providing 7 assists and scoring 2 goals in 33 games across all competitions. However, he has been doing it without any rest as Mourinho is short of right-back options.
Therefore, Tottenham should make sure they go in search of right-backs in the summer transfer window.
Centre-back
Veteran defenders Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen have been in North London for almost a decade and their best days seem to have already passed. Age has been catching up with the Belgian duo.
Colombian Davinson Sanchez is slowly showing signs of promises and Japhet Tanganga has been excellent in the few games he has featured. But Argentine youngster Juan Foyth has not lived up to the expectations. And with the Belgian duo having little to offer in the future, the manager should bring in young and energetic central defenders for the new season.

Centre-forward
Tottenham sold Victor Janssen and Fernando Llorente last summer but failed to bring in a replacement. As a result, they have faced difficult situations in the absence of Harry Kane due to injury. Despite missing 8 league games, he has been Tottenham’s top scorer.
This shows the lack of leaders up front for Tottenham. Lucas Moura was deployed in the striker role but the Brazilian hasn’t made an impact. Therefore, it is necessary to bring in a backup for Kane.
Troy Parrott is young and needs experience to develop into a Premier League material. And he cannot be depended upon for a whole campaign. Therefore, Mourinho has to concentrate on adding a striker to the ranks.
