Sarah Jessica Parker never imagined herself as a movie star even at the beginning of her career.
The Sex and the City actress once claimed that the technique of acting appealed to her more than the glitter. This meant that Parker, regardless of its success, was only interested in releasing relevant products.
In an interview with Charlie Rose, she said, “I believe that doing good work matters to me ultimately it is what motivates me the most, of course. But I think I’ve been working for so many years that I don’t see myself having that accelerated, meteoric career that happens so overnight and insane.”
There was a time when Parker could have grown tired of the kinds of films Hollywood was producing. The popular megastar reportedly believed that there weren’t as many films geared at adult viewers. In contrast, she thought Hollywood catered to young people who “wanted to see movies for knuckleheads”.
This as per Parker is a glaring and worrying departure from earlier in Hollywood history.
She said, “I recall when adults visited theatres. Adult movies were always available up until roughly five years ago, and they were profitable. It wasn’t that dangerous. I feel like I have to compete with the tastes of the audience.”
With her production firm Beautiful Matches, Parker has been providing additional possibilities for others in the film industry. She has also used Beautiful Matches to find herself interesting gigs like the TV show Divorce.
To locate or develop the kinds of compelling stories she believed Hollywood lacked, she set out to write Beautiful Matches, especially when it comes to female actresses.
Talking to Bust about her production firm she said, “Our goal is to tell complete stories about everyone. Yet the story’s viewpoint from the woman’s perspective is of particular interest to us. We do our best to take care of her and the way her narrative is being portrayed”.
