Ronald Dion DeSantis is a former military officer and politician who has been serving as the 46th governor of Florida since 2019. A member of the Republican Party, DeSantis previously represented Florida’s 6th congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2013 to 2018. He joined the United States Navy in 2004 and served as a legal advisor to SEAL Team in 2006.
He was deployed to Iraq in 2007 and later appointed by the U.S. Department of Justice to serve as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Middle District of Florida. DeSantis quit his active military duty in 2010.

As governor, DeSantis has opposed the implementation of COVID-19 measures such as face mask mandates, stay-at-home orders, and vaccination requirements. He also cut state government spending, leading to the largest budget surplus in Florida history, and oversaw the passage of the Parental Rights in Education Act. DeSantis was reelected with the largest margin of victory in the state in 40 years.
