Miro, formerly known as Rusev, became the latest WWE star to join AEW
There was a big announcement made by AEW as former WWE star, Rusev, became the latest to join Dynamite.
Rusev had seen his WWE contract terminated as he was released during the coronavirus pandemic. The former United States champion had taken up a streaming role with Twitch and YouTube being his outlets.
In fact, Rusev had claimed he was done with wrestling and had become a full-time streamer. However, this was another story altogether, as Miro was the best man during a segment featuring Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford.
Rusev/Miro cut a scathing promo too as he spoke about the brass ring and how WWE held him back.
AEW also put in another Twitch reference as a shot to WWE’s decision regarding third party usage. There is no doubt that Rusev is a great talent for AEW, but it begs the question, where does he fit into all this?
Miro isn’t the first name to joined AEW from WWE, and it seems he won’t be the last. There was a lot of hype about AEW bringing in fresh talent and giving them time on the stage, but nothing beats an experienced wrestler.
AEW has given air-time to several stars that weren’t mainstream. However, the AEW roster now hosts a ton of ex-WWE talents.
Jon Moxley, Chris Jericho, Taz, Vickie Guerrero, Brodie Lee, Lance Archer, Taynara Conti, Matt Cardona, Dustin Rhodes, FTR, Matt Hardy, Jake Hager and Brandi Rhodes are some of the names off the top of my head.
Some of these stars have held the main belts on AEW for a while too. However, it is to be seen where Miro fits in all this.
A hint could be where Miro featured on this week’s AEW. He could be a mid-carder for now given that he came on the Sabian-Ford angle.
This is actually a good move as AEW can try him out in several storylines and find out what is best for him.
They did that with Brodie Lee despite him being made the leader of the Dark Order. He initially fought with SCU before moving onto Moxley and then winning the TNT title from Cody.
Rusev could follow a similar chart on AEW. The roster also has a ton of quality wrestlers that could provide him stiff opposition.
There still is a lot of work to be done for Miro and he could turn out to be a future champion on the promotion too.
However, it is to be seen if he becomes the AEW Champion first or a TNT Champion or a Tag Champion.
