Hoda was raised in a close-knit Egyptian-American family and was born on August 9, 1964. She completed her college at Virginia Tech with a degree in broadcast journalism. Savannah Guthrie is an American journalist and a co-anchor in NBC’s morning show, ‘Today’. Also, she is the correspondent for various NBC News programs. She was born in Melbourne, Australia on December 27. 1971. But she was raised in Tucson, Arizona and completed her degree at the University of Arizona in journalism. She also did a degree in law school at Georgetown University.
She started her career as a local news reporter in Arizona and was doing well. After a period of time, she moved on to work with various NBC News programs, such as ‘NBC Nightly News’ and ‘The Today Show’. On seeing her capability, she was assigned to co-anchor alongside Matte Lauer for the ‘Today’ show in 2012. She grabbed the opportunity well and held her position. When Lauer’s departed in 2017, Savannah joined Hoda Kotb and anchored the show.
She has covered a lot of interesting news including the 2016 presidential election and the COVID-19 pandemic. Also grabbed multiple Emmy Awards for her journalism career.
Why are they absent? Are they leaving?
The absence of Guthrie and Kotb created sparks around the journalism community as they were absent for a long-time in the show. In their absence, Sheinelle Jones and Craig Melvin have replaced them in the show till their arrival.
In the show, Jones and Melvin told that Guthrie is on an assignment and that is the reason why she is absent from the show. But detailed information about her absence is not yet revealed. Before, Guthrie left the show in the middle as she tested positive in the middle of the show and missed the 2023 Oscars too.
Coming to Kotb’s absence, they’ve told she is ‘off’ for the day due to some family issues. After she returned to the show, she told that her child was not feeling well and that is the reason for her absence. Also, she said “”When your child is ill, the amount of gratitude you can have for people who helped you out,” she tearfully said during the show upon her return. “I’m grateful to the doctors and nurses, I’m grateful to my family and I’m grateful to friends like you [Savannah Guthrie] who were there every single day. I love you.”
