Kaitlan Collins was born and raised in Alabama, where her father worked as a mortgage banker. She grew up in a non-political household, with her parents never expressing their political beliefs or voting.
After graduating from Prattville High School, Collins attended the University of Alabama. Initially majoring in chemistry, she later switched to journalism and political science, earning her Bachelor of Arts degree in 2014. During her time in college, she was a member of the Alpha Phi sorority.
Following graduation, Collins moved to Washington, D.C. and landed a job as an entertainment reporter for The Daily Caller website in June 2014. Her coverage of the 2016 presidential election led to her promotion as the White House correspondent for The Daily Caller in January 2017, where she began reporting on the Trump administration.

After being hired by CNN’s White House team in July 2017, Kaitlan Collins covered President Trump’s travels to several countries. She served as the CNN White House correspondent for much of the coverage of the 2020 US presidential election and was later promoted to chief White House correspondent for the incoming Biden administration in January 2021.
At just 28 years old, Collins became the youngest chief White House correspondent in CNN’s history and one of the youngest chief correspondents for a major media network. On September 15, 2022, CNN announced that Collins would co-anchor a new morning show with Don Lemon and Poppy Harlow, marking the end of her tenure as chief White House correspondent.
The recent reports suggest that Kaitlan Collins plans to relocate from Washington, D.C., to New York City. The reason behind her move is said to be due to an argument that occurred between Collins and Don Lemon, a fellow CNN anchor. Reports suggest that Collins’ departure may have been the result of the heated exchange. However, there is no confirmation from either Collins or CNN regarding the incident or its role in her move.
