Sin Cara made a name for himself in WWE thanks to his acrobatic style of wrestling and when he burst onto the scene, many touted him to become a big name in the business and a few even compared him to the legendary Rey Mysterio – here is all you need to know about where he is now
The character of Sin Cara was portrayed by various characters in WWE. Jose Jorge Arriaga Rodriguez was the second and longest-tenured wrestler to use the persona.
Arriaga took over the character from Luis Urive after the latter was handed a 30-day suspension following a wellness program violation. Luis Urive returned after completing his suspension tenure. We got a feud between Urive, who was portraying the original version and Arriaga, who was the impostor version. During the feud, the impostor Sin Cara was called ‘Sin Cara Negro’ while the original one was called ‘Sin Cara Azul’.
They went back and forth for a few weeks before their rivalry culminated at a SmackDown taping on October 16 where Sin Cara Azul beat Sin Cara Negro in a Mask vs. Mask match that the original version won. Negro was unmasked after the match.
After some time, Arriaga reprised the character of Sin Cara. He got a big win on RAW defeating Alberto Del Rio. After a brief stint on the main roster, he was sent to NXT. He teamed with Kalisto and they were known as ‘The Lucha Dragons’. The Lucha Dragons won the NXT Tag Team Championship from The Ascension. This was Arriaga’s first title in WWE.
After achieving moderate success on the main roster, he requested his release from WWE and it was granted back in 2019.
Sin Cara returned to Mexico in December 2019. Arriaga was playing the same character as he saved Pagano from an attack at Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide’s annual Guerra de Titanes show.
On December 17, Arriaga announced that he would be changing his ring name to “Cinta de Oro” which means “Golden Ribbon” in English. There was another superstar who had the name Cinta de Oro, who passed away in 2016. Cara received permission from the late wrestler’s family and continued his legacy. The family also gave him the last mask that was worn by the wrestler.
On April 19, 2020, Arriaga competed in his first match under the Cinta de Oro gimmick, teaming with Pagano to defeat Aereo and El Hijo Del Impostor at a De Juarez Para El Mundo event.
