UFC 273 saw three fighters pick up the first-ever Fan Bonus of the Night award
The UFC debuted a new bonus system at UFC 273 with Khamzat Chimaev, Alexander Volkanovski and Petr Yan all getting the Fan Bonus of the Night.
This was over and above the regular Fight of the Night and Performance of the Night bonuses which are at $50,000 each.
The Fan Bonus of the Night award sees UFC fans vote, up to three times, on a website, for the fighters on the card.
It is to note that this bonus is only for PPV UFC events and three winners get picked out. In the first-ever Fan Bonus of the Night vote, it was Chimaev who won first place and got $30,000. Alexander Volkanovski got second place and $20,000 while Petr Yan got $10,000.
An interesting catch here is that all the bonuses are paid in Bitcoin by Crypto.com.
Chimaev and Volkanovski both were on the winning side at UFC 273, but they had contrasting fights.
Chimaev was taken to the limit by Gilbert Burns but still managed a unanimous decision win. This was the toughest test Borz had faced and he made it out, just about.
Volkanovski, on the other hand, absolutely dismantled Chan Sung Jung. The Australian also kept his UFC Featherweight title and is now looking to cement his legacy as the best in his weight class.
However, Yan was not on the winning side. He failed to recapture his title from Aljamain Sterling. Yan lost the fight via split decision, though many believed he had done enough to win the Bantamweight gold.
The Russian also believed he had won the fight, but Sterling kept the belt and is now looking for his next rival.
