Brazilian MMA star Gilbert Burns will be hoping to end the Khamzat Chimaev hype train when he faces the undefeated Swedish fighter at UFC 273 this weekend.

There is a lot riding on Gilbert Burns‘ fight against Khamzat Chimaev on Sunday, April 10th at UFC 273. The two will meet in the Octagon in Jacksonville, Florida, with the winner expected to be in contention for a title fight against welterweight king Kamaru Usman.

While Chimaev is on an impressive four-fight win streak in the UFC, he has only managed to beat one top fifteen ranked opponent, Li Jingliang. The Swede will now have a much more stern test against Burns, who is ranked 2nd in the UFC welterweight division.

More so, Burns himself will be hoping for another shot at the title after his defeat to Usman in February 2021. Burns was on a six-fight win streak prior to his loss against Usman. Although Burns did beat Stephen Thompson later in July that year, he will be hoping to make a statement of intent by halting the highly-rated Chimaev this weekend.

Where does Gilbert Burns train?

According to reports, Gilbert Burns is currently training out of Sanford MMA. The gym was founded rather recently, in 2017, by Henri Hooft and Greg Jones as Combat Club and later Hard Knocks 365 before being rebranded to Sanford MMA in 2019.

Burns, who has a 20-4 professional MMA record, recently admitted that Kamaru Usman was also helping him train for his fight against Chimaev. The 35-year-old Burns reportedly wanted to fight Chimaev in Brazil but will now get the chance to end his beef with the Chechen-born fighter this weekend at UFC 273.
