We take a look at the debut and record of the ‘Italian Dream’, Marvin Vettori

Marvin Vettori was signed into the UFC as a former Venator FC welterweight champion, having competed in the promotion for only a year. He would enter the UFC with a record of 10-2 as a professional mixed martial artist.

He made his debut against Alberto Uda at UFC 202, in a card that was headlined by the rematch between Conor Mcgregor and Nate Diaz. He won the fight via submission due to a guillotine choke in the first round. Vettori absolutely dominated Uda in a fight that only lasted one round.

He would win, lose and draw a couple of matches, including a loss against current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya at UFC on Fox: Poirier vs. Gaethje, when the pair met for the first time. Since that fight he went on an impressive five-fight win streak, eventually reclaiming his shot at the belt against Israel Adesanya. His momentum would be put on hold by Izzy again when he beat him by unanimous decision in their rematch. His current record in the UFC stands at 8 wins, 3 losses and one draw.

Robert Whittaker vs Marvin Vettori being targeted for UFC 275 in Singapore

The first-ever UFC pay per view card in Southeast Asia will feature a middleweight bout between top-ranked contenders Robert Whittaker and Marvin Vettori. Robert Whittaker and Marvin Vettori, both coming off losses to the middleweight champion Israel Adesanya, had verbally agreed to fight, and the news has been confirmed by the UFC.

UFC 275 is slated to be hosted by Singapore after travel restrictions have been eased across the globe. The UFC has some elaborate plans for 2022 and 2023, with several big PPVs to be hosted on international soil.

Robert Whittaker has had a near-perfect record, since he made the jump to middleweight. He has only suffered two losses – both at the hands of the champion, Adesanya. Similar to Whittaker, Vettori has lost two fights against Adesanya, both by decision. He has racked up a victory against Paulo Costa since that loss, at a catchweight of 205 pounds.

What this fight does to the title picture still remains a question, since both fighters have lost to Adesanya recently in the past. As for the champion, he is most likely to fight Jared Cannonier in pursuit of a fresh challenge.
