Ahead of his fifth title defense fight at UFC 290 against Yair Rodriguez, we take a look at Alexander Volkanovski’s wife, kids and more
It is no surprise that Alexander Volkanovski is well on his way to becoming one of the greatest featherweight fighters of all time. City Kickboxing fighter and UFC featherweight champion Volkanovski’s first exposure to combat sports began when he started training in Greco-Roman wrestling at an early age and ended up winning the national title when he was 12. However, he decided to give up wrestling when he was 14 and instead directed his focus on a career in rugby league as a front-rower.
Volkanovski funnily started training in wrestling and MMA just to stay in shape for the rugby season, but soon realized that his true calling was a professional mixed martial artist. Although he primarily fights out of Freestyle Fighting Gym in Wollongong, he regularly completes training camps at Tiger Muay Thai in Phuket and City Kickboxing in Auckland with fellow UFC fighters Israel Adesanya, Dan Hooker and Kai Kara-France.
Volkanovski who also has some prior professional boxing experience, won the AFC featherweight championship in 2015, and defended the title twice before finally making his UFC debut in 2016. He entered the promotion with an impressive 13-1 record. Volkanovski is one of the most durable fighters in the UFC roster, and competes at the same pace for the entirety of the fight.

But Volkanovski’s favorite role outside the octagon is being a loving husband and father to his beautiful family. In fact, he is sculpting his legacy to become a good role model inside and outside the cage. Volkanovski is married to Emma Volkanovski, who’s a huge fitness expert and enthusiast. She is three inches taller than Alexander and B.Sc in Physiology from the University of Sydney. The pair tied the knot back in 2015. Emma spends most of her time taking care of the kids and is a dedicated mom and wife.
Emma Volkanovski was born in Shellharbour City Council, and grew up in Sydney, Australia. Her parents — father John Harris and mother Rose Harris have been farmers. She spent most of her childhood with her younger sisters, Jessica and Carmela Harris, and went to Cheltenham Girls High School. Her keen interest in the functions of the human brain prompted her to study at the University of Sydney.
In a past interview Volkanovski spoke about one of the oldest tattoos on his body which ready ‘family’. He said ‘ I got that pretty young, before I even had kids. I just wanted something with personal significance. And I am a family man – that’s what I pride myself on. Even when I was young I was like, “I’m going to have four kids.” Although after having two girls now I’m like, “Do I try for another?” I don’t know, man, two’s hard enough…’
