K-pop idol MJ, a member of the boy group ASTRO, was discharged from the military on November 8, 2023. MJ held a live broadcast on ASTRO’s official YouTube channel on the day of his discharge to communicate with fans for the first time in a long time.
MJ enlisted in the army as an active duty soldier in May 2022 and served his military duty in the military band for about 1 year and 6 months. After fulfilling his military service, MJ greeted fans through a live broadcast without any special discharge ceremony.

On the group’s official account, fellow member Rocky shared a video of him saying goodbye with the caption, “Hyung, come back safely.. I’ll be waiting..” Fellow ASTRO member JinJin shared photos of the three of them together along with the message, “AROHA! We sent M hyung off well and have returned to Seoul. Haha. I feel uneasy, but on the other hand, I feel at ease because I was with him together until the end!! Please send lots of support for M hyung so that he can come back safely^^”
ASTRO’s staff also posted a set of photos, writing, “Our oldest member MJ who enlisted with a brave attitude. Promising of the day we reunite and bask in purple light, we ask that you send much support to MJ who will return healthily!”
