A purported reward of $20,000 was offered, quickly escalating to $60,000 as individuals unrelated to the case got involved. Her employer reportedly fired her due to the negative attention on social media, and her boyfriend, Thomar Latrell Simmons, pleaded with the public to stop cyberbullying her. However, as the situation unfolded, Simmons, too, expressed his disappointment and disgust upon learning that her kidnapping claims were untrue.

In a surprising turn of events, Russell’s attorney, Emory Anthony, released a statement admitting that multiple claims made by Russell were false, including the kidnapping.
