Colby Covington faced Kamaru Usman for the UFC Welterweight Championship and broke his jaw in the fight
UFC 245 saw some excellent bouts but the headline was Colby Covington facing Kamaru Usman. The challenger ended the night with a broken jaw after the fight went to the fifth round.
Covington, who has a history of being a big talker, is also an open supporter of Donald Trump.
The president of the United States has had some problems with the impeachment hearing recently, and things have been tough for Covington too.
Covington was invited to the White House under Trump in the past and was supported by Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr.
The Trump pair have also shared videos of supporting the champion in the past.
Covington has openly supported Trump and also has sported a MAGA (Make America Great Again) hat during some UFC bouts and pictures.
The American has taken up the heel role at UFC extremely well. He has walked down to a fight with Kurt Angle’s theme song from the WWE. The chant that went along with it was “You Suck” but he didn’t fare all too well at the last UFC.
A big loss at UFC 245
The 31-year-old has a great MMA record with 15 wins from 17 clashes. He also has a history of winning several titles in amateur wrestling and made the move to the UFC later.
Covington was the interim champion of the Welterweight division in the past but the loss to Usman might keep him out of action for a while.
Usman won the title from Tyron Woodley at UFC 235, but his hit on Covington broke the challenger’s jaw.
Covington could be out for at least six months with the problem, and it will be interesting to see what his next move could be.
