Khamzat Chimaev is a Chechen born Swedish mixed martial artist that competes in the middleweight and welterweight division of the UFC. As a freestyle wrestler, Chimaev is a three time national champion. His full name is Khamzat Khizarovich Chimaev and competed in Brave Combat Federation before signing with the UFC.
Chimaev was born in Chechnya during the war, and his family moved to Sweden in pursuit of a better life. At the age of two, Chimaev suffered a grave injury when he fell down on concrete stairs, leaving him unable to breathe correctly through one nostril.
Khamzat has an older brother named Artur who’s also a freestyle wrestler. He also has a younger brother although not much is known of him. ‘Borz’ fell in love with MMA when he watched Mcgregor knockout Jose Aldo at UFC 194, and realized the prospect of financial benefits in transitioning to MMA. He made the change to provide the best possible life for his mom and family.
His family is his motivation for fighting, and its apparent by now that he’s deeply attached to them. He had also mentioned during a post fight interview that he told my mom that he’ll be making good money soon. His mom said, ‘It’s a pity that now we have no money – but my aunt is no more. She is in paradise. I promised myself that I would always have money. I’m glad I’m fine now.”
There are no records of Chimaev being married on the internet, and Borz keeps his personal life unvoiced and extremely private.
Which gym does Khamzat Chimaev train at?
The three-time Swedish national wrestling champion had a natural inclination towards MMA when he first saw Jose Aldo vs Conor Mcgregor at UFC 194. The fight ignited the idea and provoked the thought of becoming an MMA fighter. Since then, he has been training at Allstar Training Center in Stockholm, Sweden since he was 23 years of age. The Gym has produced talents such as Ilir Latifi and Alexander Gustaffson just to name a few.
Besides that Khamzat has been training tirelessly to develop his skills as a martial artist. Ahead of UFC 273, he spent some time in Thailand at the prestigious Tiger Muay Thai to sharpen up his stand-up skills and test himself against some of the best kickboxers in the game.
Chimaev also stops by the reputed Xtreme Couture gym to train and put in some work whenever he’s in Vegas.
