Who is Morgan Cole Wallen?

Toby and Lesli Wallen welcomed Morgan into the world in 1993 in Sneedville, Tennessee. The family eventually relocated to Knoxville, where Wallen completed his high school education. His father was a minister and his mother a teacher. He wanted to play college baseball at first, but a ruptured ligament made him concentrate on music. Wallen picked up the guitar and was influenced by rock groups like Nickelback and Breaking Benjamin as well as country musicians like Keith Whitley and Eric Church.

During his stint on The Voice in 2014, Morgan Wallen’s performance of “Collide” earned praise from judges Shakira and Usher, and he ultimately joined Usher’s team before being taken on by Adam Levine’s team. Although he was eliminated during the playoffs, the show raised his profile and helped him establish industry connections. Wallen began working with vocal coach Sergio Sanchez and relocated to Nashville to pursue his career, forming a temporary band called Morgan Wallen & Them Shadows. In 2015, he signed to Panacea Records and released his debut EP Stand Alone, which featured the single “Spin You Around”. Later that year, Wallen signed to Big Loud Records and began co-writing songs for other artists. He also collaborated with Florida Georgia Line on the hit single “Up Down”.

When Morgan Wallen changed his appearance and adopted a throwback mullet, his celebrity began to soar. With the release of his first album, “If I Know Me,” in 2018, “Whisky Glasses” became his biggest hit to date. He toured with Florida Georgia Line in 2019 and put out “Chasin’ You,” which peaked at number one on the Hot Country Songs list the following year. Wallen utilized the COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity to write and record “Dangerous: The Double Album,” his sophomore album, which debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart and produced smash singles including “7 Summers” and “Wasted on You.”

After a boost in album sales, Wallen donated $300,000 to the Black Music Action Coalition in April 2021. 20 people who supported him were allowed to choose a charity to give $15,000 to. Wallen admitted he was wrong for his comments on Good Morning America on July 23, 2021, and his song “Sand in My Boots” returned to country radio in August 2021. Wallen was nominated for the 2021 American Music Awards but was not invited to attend due to his previous actions. Holly G. founded the Black Opry in response to Wallen’s use of a racial slur.
