Qinwen Zheng is a 19-year old Chinese Tennis player who is currently participating in the Charleston Open
Qinwen Zheng made her WTA debut at the Palermo 2021. She recorded her first win defeating second seed Liudmila Samsonova. At the 2022 Melbourne Summer Set 1, she reached her first WTA semi-final after going past Mai Hontama, Vera Zvonareva, and Ana Konjuh respectively before losing to Simona Halep in straight sets in the semi-final.
She is currently ranked 72 and has already accumulated prize money of $263,328. She jumped 140 places last year in the rankings and the surge has continued this year. Zheng is certainly a player to watch out for.
She has a record of 116 wins and 45 losses in her young career with a win percentage of 72. She is coached by Pere Riba Madrid and trains in Barcelona. Zheng idolizes the legendary Roger Federer.
Recent results and what’s coming ahead for Qinwen Zheng
Qinwen Zheng has been really impressive in her short but noteworthy career. She has shown sparks of brilliance and has age on her side to take her game to the next level and win many Grand Slams in the near future.
Zheng went past former champion Sloane Stephens in the first round of the Charleston Open. She won the match 6-3, 4-6, 6-0. The match lasted just over a couple of hours. Stephens saved 10 of the 16 break points but could not get close to Zheng’s first-service success rate of 84.8%. This is certainly the biggest win of her career to date.
Zheng will take on Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second round. Alexandrova beat Allie Kiick in her first-round match 6-1, 6-1. This will be the first time the two women face off against each other. The match will be played on Court 4.
