In a recent interview, renowned actor Richard Dreyfuss strongly denounced Hollywood’s new inclusion criteria, saying they make him “vomit.” He slammed the new diversity and inclusion standards that the Academy Awards will begin enforcing starting in 2019.
Any movie that wants to win the Oscar for “Best Picture” has to follow the rules. He says that “This is a form of art. Additionally; it generates revenue as a type of trade. Dreyfuss stated this on the PBS programme “Firing Line with Margaret Hoover”: “But it’s an art. And nobody has the right to tell me, as an artist, that I must accept the newest, most up-to-date definition of morality.“
Dreyfuss, who is well known for his role as Matt Hooper in the horror movie “Jaws,” asserted that the rules were legislating people’s feelings.
To be eligible for “Best Picture” at the Oscars, a movie must, as of 2024, meet specific diversity. Moreover, inclusion requirements are in four separate categories as outlined by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
