Tennis fans, especially Roger Federer fans might be familiar with Savannah Guthrie. The broadcast journalist has been a big fan of the Swiss maestro for quite some time now and has been pretty vocal about her obsession for her tennis crush.
The 47-year-old often posts and shares photos of Federer via her social media handles (Twitter and Instagram). However, let’s now take a further look into this fan who’s undying love for Federer is unquestionable.
Guthrie was born in Melbourne, Australia on December 27, 1971. She was raised in Tucson, Arizona, and got her start in television at NBC affiliates in Missouri, Arizona and Washington, D.C.
Guthrie earned a law degree at Georgetown University and became a legal correspondent, first for ‘Court TV’, then NBC. In 2011, she began working at the ‘Today’ show and was named a co-host of the show in July 2012, replacing Ann Curry – a position she holds until now.
Guthrie joined the University of Arizona after high school and finally took up journalism after being advised by her mom. While in school, Guthrie landed a job at a local public television station.
After receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in journalism in 1993, she took a job at a local TV station in Columbia, Missouri, where she spent two years. Later, she was offered a position with an NBC partner in her hometown of Tucson.
She also earned a law degree from the Georgetown University Law Center and graduated in 2002, receiving the highest score on the Arizona bar exam.
She specialized in white-collar criminal defense for some years until she returned to TV journalism in 2004, as a legal affairs correspondent for Court TV.
Guthrie, a presenter for American network NBC on the ‘Today’ show, has worked as a broadcaster since 1993. The 48-year-old has been with NBC since 2007 when she joined as a correspondent and then became a White House correspondent covering the Barack Obama presidency.
And in 2011, she became the co-host of the ‘Today’ show alongside Natalie Morales and Al Roker. Over the years, Guthrie has interviewed a number of high-profile people which includes US presidents Obama and Donald Trump. She has also interviewed Dr. Conrad Murray, who was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the death of legendary musician Michael Jackson.
Away from television, one of Guthrie’s greatest passion is to support Swiss tennis star, Roger Federer. While speaking on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in October 2018, she had revealed the extent of her obsession with the Swiss star.
She said: “I’m not like a stalker! [But] I’m dying to meet him.”
Guthrie has also interviewed Federer in the past and watched him at the US Open. She also had a chance to play against Federer for charity.
She had teamed up with American player Jack Sock for a ‘Match of Africa’ one-set exhibition doubles match against Federer and billionaire Gates in California.
Guthrie married English-born BBC News presenter Mark Orchard after dating him in December 2005. However, the couple split and announced their divorce just four years later. She then got into a relationship with Democratic political and communications consultant Michael Feldman.
The couple married on March 15, 2014, in Tucson and announced the birth of their first child, a daughter, Vale Guthrie Feldman in August 2014. She gave birth to their second child, a boy, Charles Max Feldman in December 2016.
