Ncuti Gatwa is a Scottish-Rwandan actor, best known for his role as Eric Effiong in the Netflix series “Sex Education”. He was casted as the fifteenth doctor in the world-famous Doctor Who show.

The New Doctor Ncuti Gatwa:

Ncuti Gatwa was born in Nyarugenge, Kigali, Rwanda in 1992. His family escaped to Scotland during the Rwandan genocide and settled in Edinburgh and Dunfermline. After attending Boroughmuir High School and Dunfermline High School, he went to the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Acting in 2013.

He then joined the Dundee Repertory Theatre acting graduation scheme, where he performed in several productions. In 2018, Gatwa landed his breakout role as Eric Effiong in the Netflix series Sex Education, for which he won a BAFTA Scotland Award for Best Actor in Television in 2020 and was nominated for three BAFTA Television Awards for Best Male Comedy Performance.

In April 2022, Gatwa was cast in Greta Gerwig’s upcoming film, Barbie. Ncuti Gatwa has been announced as the new incarnation of the Doctor in Doctor Who, succeeding Jodie Whittaker on May 8, 2022. He holds the pride of becoming the first black actor to lead the series. Gatwa plays his role alongside David Tennant, the Tenth Doctor role.

The Scottish actor David Tennant played the Fourteenth doctor in the show. David Tennant started acting professionally when he was still in secondary school. He acted in an anti-smoking film that was aired on television and in schools when he was just 16 years old.

After graduating from drama school, he played his first professional role in The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui at the 7:84 Theatre Company. In the 1990s, he appeared in many plays at the Dundee Repertory Theatre.

David Tennant

Tennant developed his career in British theatre, frequently performing with the Royal Shakespeare Company. He played Touchstone in As You Like It in his natural Scottish accent.

Tennant contributed to several audio dramatizations of Shakespeare, including The Comedy of Errors and King Lear. He became more prominent on television in 2004 and 2005 when he appeared in several productions such as He Knew He Was Right and The Quatermass Experiment. Later in 2005, he appeared in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as Barty Crouch Jr.
