According to the Mirror, Arsenal are interested in 19-year-old Bundesliga sensation Kai Havertz. The youngster is quite similar to Mesut Ozil in terms of his style of play and has earned rave reviews for his scintillating displays at Bayer Leverkusen.
Let us get a more detailed insight into one of German football’s brightest young prospects – Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.
Born in Aachen, Germany, Havertz played in the youth ranks of second division side Alemannia Aachen for two years before being signed by Bayer Leverkusen at the age of 11. He became the club’s youngest debutant in the Bundesliga when he made his debut against Werder Bremen at the age of 17 years 126 days in 2016.
In 2017, Havertz became the club’s youngest goalscorer and finished his first season with 24 appearances in the Bundesliga where he scored 4 goals.
Since then, he has established himself as a regular starter for Leverkusen and has registered four goals and two assists this season, including 3 goals in the Europa League.
Having represented Germany at all youth levels, Havertz made his cut into Joachim Low’s senior team and made a substitute appearance against Peru in September this year.
In reality, he is a combination of Ozil and German legend Michael Ballack. Havertz has been used as a playmaker at Leverkusen but he is capable of playing in multiple positions in the midfield.
He has all the makings of a complete midfielder. A creative passer in the final third, he is very calm in possession and waits for the right moment to use his vision and unleashes that killer pass to set his teammates into free spaces. At times, he also has the ability to drop deeper where he uses his game reading ability and physicality to break up the play with interceptions and carries the ball forward with pace from deeper areas.
He has an excellent technique which allows him to receive the ball very close with a sumptuous first touch and his remarkable left foot can be as elegant as it can be vicious with powerful long-range efforts.
Havertz has already mane a name for himself in the Bundesliga as one of the best rising creative midfielders. He has also earned his first cap for Germany at the senior level and has attracted the attention of Premier League club Arsenal which has a huge reputation for bringing the best out of youngsters. If he continues his development in the right direction, he has the potential of becoming one of the big names in football.
