El Hijo del Fantasma unmasked himself as Santos Escobar on NXT this week
There was one big moment on this week’s WWE NXT with El Hijo del Fantasma unmasking himself as Santos Escobar.
Fantasma/Escobar is the current NXT Cruiserweight and was wearing a mask as Drake Maverick came out.
Maverick lost out Fantasma in the finals of the tournament last week, but was still handed a new contract to stay in WWE.
However, while Fantasma and Maverick were speaking, two masked Luchadors came out and seemed set to attack the pair.
Fantasma then turned on Maverick and attacked him. The others joined in too and the trio revealed their identities. Fantasma was Escobar while the other two were Raul Mendoza and Joaquin Wilde.
The 36-year-old has a long history in wrestling and is a second-generation star who signed for NXT in 2019.
Escobar started his wrestling career in around 2000 and fought in several Mexican promotions.
The 36-year-old is the son of professional wrestler El Fantasma, and his El Hijo del Fantasma name means ‘son of Fantasma’.
Escobar made a name for himself in promotions such as Lucha Libre AAA, Lucha Underground and even spent a couple of years in Impact Wrestling.
He won several titles in AAA but never won a crown in Impact. He signed for NXT in 2019 but picked up an injury shortly afterwards.
Escobar then made a return in 2020 alongside Mendoza and got a chance to shine in the Interim Cruiserweight championship, and reached the final via some impressive performances.
The final clash against Maverick was one of the best matches of the year, and there was a show of respect between the two stars before and after the clash.
Escobar’s turn is certainly interesting, especially his angle with Mendoza and Wilde.
