Why a new contract for James Maddison is the right step by Leicester City

According to The Sun, Leicester City playmaker James Maddison has penned a new five-year contract which would keep him at the club until 2025

Maddison, 23, flourished through the ranks of Coventry City’s youth system and joined Norwich City in February 2016. However, he was immediately sent back on loan to Coventry which was followed by a loan spell with Scottish outfit Aberdeen, where he made 17 appearances before returning to his parent club.

In his final season at Carrow Road, he impressed with 14 goals and 8 assists in the Championship and earned a move to Leicester City in the summer of 2018. Since then, he has been a regular member of the squad and has put in eye-catching displays on several occasions.

He made a name for himself with the Foxes and also earned a call up to the England national squad. The report also suggests that several clubs are interested in securing his services but with a new deal, he has committed his future to Leicester.

Maddison – A creative head for Leicester City

Though the Foxes have missed out on the Champions League spot, Maddison’s commitment would be a huge boost for the team.

Last season, he managed 7 goals and 7 assists in all competitions and has taken his game to the next level. This term, he managed 9 goals and 3 assists and had been the creative head of the team. In that regard, handing Maddison a new deal is the right step by the club.

The 23-year-old has shown his qualities at the highest level and he has been a key figure for Leicester this season earlier in the campaign when they were challenging for the title with Liverpool. He has been brilliant so far and can be a future leader for the Foxes if he is able to develop himself and take his game to the next level.

At 23, the former Norwich City man has already proved his importance to the squad. He still has a lot more to offer in the future and given his abilities, he is capable of taking Leicester to greater heights. Thus, the Foxes have taken the best decision by handing him a new contract and keeping him at the club for a few more years.
