Man United offered a swap deal involving Pogba and 29-year-old star – Should they take it?

Why Aaron Ramsey to Manchester United would be a smart move

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport (h/t Daily Star), Juventus are willing to trade midfielder Aaron Ramsey to Manchester United as they hope to reunite with Paul Pogba at the Allianz Stadium in Turin.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has faced limitations in the midfield with Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay being out of action for the majority of the season. This has led to a massive dip in the Red Devils’ form as they are currently 9th in the league table.

Ramsey, 29, had a successful career with Arsenal before moving to Italy last summer. He has not been a regular under Maurizio Sarri. He has fallen down the pecking order at Juventus and doesn’t seem to be playing enough.

The report suggests that Juventus want to bring back United midfielder Pogba in the summer and Ramsey could be a part of that deal. Hence, Solskjaer should take the opportunity with both hands.

The Red Devils have endured an inconsistent season with injuries to key players affecting their performance massively. McTominay picked up an injury against Newcastle United on boxing day and is set to be out for a long time and Pogba’s return to action is unknown as he is still recovering from an ankle injury.

The injuries had put Solskjaer in a bad state and the Norwegian signed Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon last month. However, their midfield still lacks depth with Fred and Matic being the only players used during that time.

Fred has had to push himself in the absence of McTominay. Matic made use of his opportunity and brought stability to United’s midfield in the past few weeks but he is out of contract in the summer. With a lack of quality and depth in the squad, the manager would be wise to bring Ramsey in the place of the Frenchman, whose future at Old Trafford is uncertain.

Ramsey arrived at Arsenal in 2008 from Cardiff City, whose youth ranks he came from. He scored 65 goals and provided 65 assists in 371 appearances for the Gunners. Though he struggled a lot with injuries, he went on to play for a long time for the Gunners.

The Welshman’s experience in the Premier League would definitely add value to United, who are in the race for a top-four finish. He is capable of playing anywhere in the midfield and he could be a good addition if Pogba goes the other way.

Verdict

An experienced player, the 29-year-old would be a quality presence given his career record so far. He could add depth to the squad and his experience in English football would help him cope with the surroundings at Old Trafford.

All in all, Ramsey would be a solid addition to Solskjaer’s squad and therefore, United must accept this swap deal.
