According to Leicestershire Live, former England forward Emile Heskey has urged Leicester City to sign Liverpool star Adam Lallana at the end of the season.
Lallana, 31, came through the ranks of Southampton’s youth system and made 261 appearances for the Saints senior squad. He then signed for Liverpool in the summer of 2014 and was a regular member of the squad until a hamstring injury cut-short his game time in the 2017/18 season.
He has fallen down the pecking order under Jurgen Klopp and has featured in limited games in each of the last three campaigns. Lallana’s contract with the club is set to expire in the summer and it would be a wise decision by the Foxes to get him on a free transfer.
Brendan Rodgers has led his side brilliantly this term as they are currently 3rd in the Premier League standings. The attacking unit which consists of Jamie Vardy, Harvey Barnes, Youri Tielemans, and James Maddison, has done well. They have scored 58 goals so far.
At the same time, the defensive unit has performed without any hindrance at the back, conceding only 28, which is the third-best defensive record in the league. The Foxes have been good in every department so far. However, they would need to strengthen their squad with experienced players in the midfield department.
Maddison and Bartosz Kapustka are the only two attacking midfielders available at the manager’s disposal. However, the latter is inexperienced. If Maddison were to suffer an injury, it would leave Rodgers short.
Therefore, to keep their creativity going, they need to secure the services of an attacking midfielder and Adam Lallana would be a suitable choice.
The 31-year-old has enough experience at the highest level and could bring in some of his best qualities to Leicester’s squad. He can operate from anywhere in the midfield and also from the wide areas. In 178 games for the Reds, Lallana has 22 goals and assists each to his name and could provide the Foxes with something in the final third.
Though he has not played for the majority of this season, he has made an impact while coming from the bench on several occasions, and that is evident from the game against Manchester United earlier in the campaign where he scored a last-minute equalizer for the Reds.
Lallana has been deprived of opportunities in the last few years and with Leicester, he can prove his worth. He still has the ability to perform at a higher level and would be a good addition to Rodgers’ squad.
Therefore, the East Midlands club must make a move for the former Southampton man and lure him to the King Power Stadium in the summer on a free transfer.
