Why Alassane Pléa would be a good fit at Leicester City
According to French outlet Le10 Sport (h/t Leicestershire Live), Leicester City are keen on signing Borussia Mönchengladbach striker Alassane Pléa.
The 27-year-old Frenchman has been earning rave reviews in Germany after his impressive displays up front for Mönchengladbach. His goal-scoring exploits have seen the German side climb to fourth place in the Bundesliga table.
Pléa had been so dominant in the attack that Mönchengladbach were on top of the league table initially this season. With 8 goals to his name, he is currently his side’s top goal scorer in the league.
He also has 7 assists under his belt, making him a potent threat in front of goal. However, this is not the first time that the French finisher has impressed for Mönchengladbach.
Plea was an instant hit in Germany after arriving from French side Nice in the summer of 2018. With his excellent goal-scoring prowess, Plea established himself as a regular, making 34 league appearances in his debut season.
The Frenchman was remarkable in his first-ever campaign for the German side, scoring 12 league goals.
However, this is not the first time Leicester have shown an interest in him. The Foxes have, in the past, been linked with the French striker, when former boss Claude Puel was at the helm.
Puel, who had previously managed Plea at Nice, had signed the striker from rivals Lyon in the summer of 2014. With the player scoring a massive 16 goals in the 2017-18 Ligue 1 season, it was no wonder that the Foxes were interested in him.
Plea – A good replacement for Leicester City star Jamie Vardy
Plea seems to be improving with time, after having scored more than 10 goals each in his previous two campaigns. So Leicester’s recent pursuit of the French finisher makes sense.
Meanwhile, it has so far been a successful season for the Foxes, as they lie third in the table – thanks to their veteran star Jamie Vardy. A Premier League winner with the Foxes, Vardy has scored a whopping 19 goals in the league this season.
However, he turned 33 last January, and Leicester really need to look for new replacements if they wish to stay on top next season as well.
The Foxes also have a backup striker in Kelechi Iheanacho. However, the youngster is not an entirely reliable customer when it comes to consistent goal-scoring.
Despite arriving at the King Power Stadium back in 2017, Iheanacho has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular. With the side lacking any more strikers in the squad, Plea looks like an excellent fit to lead their attack in the coming days.

Verdict
Despite Vardy’s impressive form, he is not going to get any younger and they desperately need a consistent goal-scorer. Plea has been proving his credentials as a fine finisher in the last two seasons, making him a worthy choice. Thus, Leicester City should up their interest in the Frenchman and land him sooner than later.
