Why Alex Sandro could solve the left-back issue for Chelsea
As per Tuttosport (h/t Football.london), Chelsea have been offered the chance to sign Juventus left-back Alex Sandro in return for Emerson Palmieri.
Sandro, 29, has established himself as one of the most reliable full-backs in Europe since joining Juventus in 2015. The Brazilian won several trophies with both FC Porto and the Italian giants.
In his illustrious and trophy-laden career, he has made 383 appearances and also won the Copa America title last year. Thus, the Blues must accept the offer and bring in Sandro to boost their options at the backline, as per the report.
The Blues have done a decent job so far in maintaining 4th spot in the league standings. Despite having to do with several injuries to key players, Frank Lampard has been able to line up a strong team to manage the season.
The attacking unit has been brilliant so far. with Tammy Abraham leading the line. Willian and Callum Hudson-Odoi have also played their part from the wide areas, while the midfielders have also supported well. However, the defence has not been up to the mark, with only Antonio Rudiger making a difference in the heart of the backline.
Fikayo Tomori, Andreas Christensen and Kurt Zouma have failed to claim their spot despite getting enough opportunities. It is clear that Chelsea require a centre-back but they should also bring in a left-back. Both Emerson and Marcos Alonso have been in and out of the squad for the majority of the 2019/20 campaign. They have been left out most of the time by Lampard.
In that regard, Juve’s Sandro would be a shrewd piece of business for the London club. He has been in fine form for the past five years and has been reliable. In 22 Serie A games this term, he has already provided 3 assists.
The Brazilian international’s trophy-laden career is proof of his qualities and he could be crucial to Chelsea next season. He would undoubtedly bring experience and that would be helpful for Lampard’s side.
Verdict
At 29, Sandro has still got the energy to play at a higher level for some years. Given Chelsea’s difficulty at left-back, he would be a valuable addition. Thus, the Blue should accept the offer and bring the Brazilian to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
