Why Alexandre Lacazette would be a terrific signing for Real Madrid
According to The Sun, Real Madrid have joined the race to sign Alexandre Lacazette from Arsenal. Daily Mail reports that the striker shares a strained relationship with manager Mikel Arteta and that he could be allowed to leave as he does not feature in the latter’s long-term plans. Atletico Madrid are also said to be interested in Lacazette.
A goalscorer is needed at Real Madrid
Real Madrid are in one of their most difficult and transitional periods in recent history. It was only due to the sheer grit and determination of the side that they won the La Liga last season.
They didn’t start this season well but have performed better in recent games. However, it is rather apparent that they need a prolific goalscorer to ease some of the burden on Karim Benzema’s ageing legs.
They recently let go of Luka Jovic on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt, which leaves them short-staffed in attack. The fact that Jovic scored 2 goals in his first game on return to Frankfurt might tell you that Real gave up too soon on him.
Other than Benzema, Mariano Diaz is the only striker available at Zinedine Zidane’s disposal. Adding another forward should be on the club’s agenda.
Lacazette is a proven performer who can excel at Real Madrid
Lacazette joined Arsenal in the summer of 2017 and has grown into a key member of the team. The former Olympique Lyon academy graduate has made 149 appearances for the Gunners, bagging 57 goals and 26 assists so far.
The 29-year-old French star didn’t have the most productive of seasons in 2019/20, producing a return of just 10 goals and 6 assists in 30 matches. However, he has regained some of his mojo this season being the team’s top scorer and scoring goal like his usual prolific self.

Real Madrid could really use someone like Lacazette at this point. They lack experienced goalscorers and with the Frenchman not in the best of terms with the manager, Real should look to take advantage of the situation and sign him at the earliest.
