Why Alhassan Yusuf would be a gamble worth taking for Wolves

As per ScoreNigeria (h/t The Shields Gazette), Wolves have made a £6.3m bid for IFK Goteborg midfielder Alhassan Yusuf ahead of the summer transfer window.

Yusuf, 19, started with the Tiki-Taka Academy in Nigeria before moving to Sweden with IFK Goteborg in July 2018. After staring with the youth ranks, his breakthrough came that season, though he featured in just one game.

However, he became a regular member of the squad for the 2019 season. Though his stocks are not quite there up with the brightest emerging talents in Europe, he is regarded as a player who could go on and play at the highest level. The report also suggests that Premier League rivals Sheffield United are also interested in signing the teenager.

Wolves, meanwhile, took some time to get off the mark earlier in the campaign but they have managed to outwit several top teams in the league. They have endured a solid campaign so far despite getting knocked out of the other domestic cup competitions.

They have managed to go further in the Europa League, whilst also finding themselves in the 6th position in the league table. Nuno Espirito Santo has managed to get the best out of his men and they have done a decent job in terms of both the attack and the defence.

However, with the pandemic creating a ruckus in the finances of several clubs, it would be wise for the Midlanders to invest in the youth for the future. And the manager should make sure that they are well equipped for further campaigns.

Yusuf could be a future leader in Wolves’ midfield

The Black Country outfit have a plethora of midfield talents in their ranks. However, they need to bring in reinforcements for the future. Portuguese ace Joao Moutinho is already 33 and reaching the rear end of his career. The former Monaco man has been the driving force of the team and if he leaves after two years, there would be a huge void left.

Thus, they should make a move for Yusuf this summer who could develop himself from the youth ranks at Molineux. The Nigerian racked up 2 goals and 2 assists last season in the Swedish top-flight and also has 3 assists in 4 games in the Svenska Cupen.

The teenager is slowly making a name for himself and he is capable of doing better with the required experience. He could go on to be a leader for Wolves in the future of he is under the right guidance. His numbers may not be impressive at the moment but given his good run of form, he is capable of working wonders in the future.
