Why Arsenal should make a move for Burnley’s Chris Wood
According to Daily Star, sports writer Matt Scott has urged Arsenal to sign Burnley forward Chris Wood in the summer as a replacement for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who could leave in the summer with big teams revolving around him.
Wood, 28, came through the ranks of Waikato United’s youth system in New Zealand and joined West Brom U18 in 2008. He featured for several clubs in England including Leicester City and Leeds United before making a move to Turf Moor in 2017.
Prior to joining Burnley, he scored 27 goals for the Whites in the 2016/17 Championship season and is now a regular under Sean Dyche. He has been scoring consistently for the Clarets in the last three years and has been one of their best players.
Meanwhile, the Gunners have done a decent job in the latter stages of the campaign and are hoping for a place in the Europa League as they currently lie 9th in the league standings. Mikel Arteta has been able to bring a change in the team’s dynamic and has done a decent job so far.
The defensive unit has performed better since Arteta’s arrival after an abysmal start to the campaign. The attack too has been lively, especially with the likes of Nicolas Pepe looking rejuvenated.
However, there could be a problem for the Gunners at the end of the season with star striker and club captain Aubameyang’s future in doubts. The Gabon international is wanted by several top European teams and could be on the move, as per the report.
Therefore, it would be wise of the club to find a replacement and add depth to the squad before the former Borussia Dortmund man leaves for a bigger challenge. In that case, Burnley Chris Wood would be a suitable option for the Gunners.
The 28-year-old has been in fine form this season and has missed just 3 league games so far. In the process, he has racked up 11 goals and 1 assist and has already crossed his own tally of 10 goals from the previous campaign. He seems to be improving each day and could be the perfect backup option for Arsenal.
Wood’s inclusion in the squad would bring healthy competition to Alexandre Lacazette and youngsters Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Martinelli. He would certainly add depth and quality if he replicates the form he has shown for the Clarets this term.

The New Zealand international has been impressive in the last few years and has a decent goalscoring rate in the past few years. He could provide Arsenal with the much-needed extra goals and can develop into a vital player.
Therefore, the Gunners should look to sign Wood and lure him to the Emirates in the summer.
