As per FutbollSkanalen (h/t The Sun), Arsenal are still in contact with Swedish club Athletic Eskilstuna starlet Ismet Lushaku ahead of the summer transfer window.
Lushaku, 19, came through the ranks of IFK Eskilstuna’s youth system in his hometown. He joined Athletic Eskilstuna’s U19 squad in the summer of 2017 and two years later, he was promoted to the club’s senior set-up.
Despite his tender age, he has impressed in the Swedish top flight and is one of the most exciting young talents inSweden. And his eye-catching performances have caught the attention of Arsenal, who invited him for a trial before the games got suspended, as per the report.
The Gunners, meanwhile, have endured a disappointing campaign so far. They have been dumped out of the Europa League and the Carabao Cup, whilst also finding themselves in the 9th position in the league table.
After a poor start to the campaign which saw Unai Emery lose his job, Mikel Arteta’s arrival brought in some positivity within the squad. They have managed to do better in the latter stages of the season as Arsenal haven’t lost any of their league games since the turn of the New Year.
However, with the pandemic causing a lot of financial crisis for several clubs, it would be wise the Gunners to rope in some youngsters this summer and invest in the future. They have a good bunch of players for the present but Arsenal boss Arteta should look at the future.
Dani Ceballos, Matteo Guendouzi, Joe Willock and Mesut Ozil are the four attack-minded midfielders in the squad. However, none of them has been at their best. Ozil has racked up just 1 goal and 2 assists so far and seems to be nearing the end of his best.
Ceballos is on loan and his future with Arsenal is still uncertain. Guendouzi and Willock have been offered their fair share of chances. But they haven’t yet nailed a spot in the starting XI under Arteta. Thus, the Gunners need to bring in youngsters in the summer.
In that regard, signing Lushaku would be a massive boost for the future. The teenager has already made his debut for the Kosovo national team despite his tender age.
Lushaku has already made 17 first-team appearances for the Swedish outfit and at Arsenal, he can gain experience the youth and reserve teams before growing into a Premier League material. He can develop himself under the guidance of Arteta.
Given the lack of depth in midfield for Arsenal, it would be good if they strengthened the department this summer. And signing youngsters would help them reap rewards in the future. Thus, they should make a move for Lushaku in the summer.
