According to Daily Star, Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta is weighing up his options, with Olympiacos midfielder Mady Camara in his sights ahead of the summer transfer window.
The report also suggests that Arteta was impressed with Camara’s display that Knocked the Gunners out of the Europa League and has asked for the midfielder’s detailed reports in the coming weeks.
Camara, 23, came through the youth ranks of Santoba FC in Guinea and moved to AC Ajaccio in the French second-tier in the summer of 2016. Since the second half of his debut season in France, he was a regular starter and his impressive performances earned him a move to Greece with Olympiacos, two years later.
He has been a prominent player for the Greek giants in the last couple of two years. In his debut season, he also had an impressive tally of 6 goals in 24 league games. Camara’s game has been improving every season and he has also been capped 12 times by Guinea since making his debut in September 2018.
Meanwhile, despite a good change in their recent run of results, the Gunners have been inconsistent right from the start. Mikel Arteta has played a major role since his arrival but they need to be in good form towards the end of the campaign.
Arsenal are currently 10th in the league table and have crashed out of the Europa League after losing to Olympiacos. Therefore, they will need to do better and minimize their opponent’s attack next season. Though they have various options in midfield, the manager should look to sign defensive midfielders.
Granit Xhaka and Lucas Torreira are the only defensive midfielders available in the Gunners’ ranks and the manager can do better by adding Mady Camara to his squad.
The 23-year-old put in one of his finest performances against Arsenal a few days back in the Europa League. Though he was quiet in the first game between the two sides, his importance to the team was visible in his performance in the return leg.
The Guinean international got the better of Arsenal’s midfield and also got into the final third with much ease. He is capable of playing in an advanced role and that is evident from the 2 goals he has scored so far. And his versatility would come in handy for the manager.
Camara can be the perfect player alongside Torreira and Matteo Guendouzi if he is able to replicate the same form, he has shown this season.
At 23, it would be the right time for him to shine in the Premier League and with Arsenal, he can showcase his talents. The Gunners have failed defensively this season and Camara could be a perfect shield in front of the backline.
Therefore, Arteta should make a move for the Guinean and lure him to the Emirates in the summer.
