As per Calcio Napoli 24 (h/t The Sun), Arsenal are set to battle rivals Tottenham for the signing of Arkadiusz Milik in the summer.
Milik, 26, came through the ranks of Rozwoj Katowice youth system and had spells with Bayern Leverkusen and FC Augsburg. In 2014, he initially signed for Ajax on loan and scored 32 goals in the Eredivisie in 52 games across two seasons.
His impressive performances for the Dutch side earned him a move to Napoli in the summer of 2016 and since then, he has been a regular member for the Italian giants. Though he has had several injury issues, Milik has been one of the best players for Napoli in the past three years, forming a successful partnership with Dries Mertens and Lorenzo Insigne.
The Polish man ended as Napoli’s top scorer last season and has established himself as one of the best strikers in Serie A. He has scored regularly for the side and has been improving each season, hence, Arsenal should look to sign him in the summer.
The Gunners haven’t lost a league game this year but their inconsistency has been highlighted throughout the season. The defensive unit failed miserably, which led to the team’s downfall. In the attacking department, club captain Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been the only prolific goalscorer, without support from the rest of the forwards.
Frenchman Alexandre Lacazette is not having the best of times at the Emirates and has scored only 7 goals this season so far. His form has taken a slight dip and was left frequently out of the starting XI in the last few weeks. Apart from them, youngsters Gabriel Martinelli and Eddie Nketiah are the options. However, they are inexperienced and cannot lead the Gunners for a whole campaign.
Therefore, it would be a wise decision by Mikel Arteta to bolster the attacking unit by bringing in established strikers. In that case, Napoli’s Arkadiusz Milik would be a good addition to the squad.
The 26-year-old has scored 12 goals in 21 games this term despite missing a few games through injury. He is the top scorer for Napoli in the league with 9 goals and is already a proven goalscorer.
The Polish international is capable of playing the centre-forward role and also the second-striker role, and Arteta could get goals out of him by partnering him with Aubameyang. Milik has played at a higher level for a long time and his experience should convince the Gunners boss to make a move for him.
The former Ajax man would certainly bring quality and depth to this Arsenal squad and would be a useful asset if he shows his true form. If he keeps himself away from injuries, he would be influential for the North Londoners in the years to come.
Therefore, the Gunners should make a move for Milik in the summer and lure him to the Emirates stadium.
