Why Arsenal signing Kai Havertz would improve their attack

Former Bayern Munich star Dietmar Hamann has urged Arsenal to make a move for German sensation Kai Havertz in the summer, as per Football.london.

Havertz, 20, is a product of Aachen’s youth system. He moved to Bayer Leverkusen in August 2010 and was promoted to the club’s senior set-up two years later. Upon his debut for the German outfit, he became the youngest ever debutant in Bundesliga. Since then, he has established himself as one of the best playmakers in the country.

Despite his tender age, Havertz has already made 200 appearances for Leverkusen. His rise to the top has been a rather swift one and he has also become a regular member of the German national squad since making his debut in September 2018. Given his impressive performances in the past few years, Arsenal should make a move for him at the earliest.

Havertz – A future replacement for Mesut Ozil

Arsenal have scored only 40 goals so far in the league. And the majority of them have come from the boots of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The Gabonese international has scored 17 goals and is the second-highest goalscorer in the top-flight.

Veteran Mesut Ozil has had a horrendous campaign, managing just 1 goal and two assists so far. Other than the World Cup 2014 winner, the Gunners don’t have any attacking midfielders in their ranks.

In that regard, signing young Havertz would be an excellent option for the club. His numbers are proof of his brilliance on the pitch. And he could be a noteworthy replacement for Ozil, whose contract is set to expire in the summer of 2021.

Havertz finished last season with 17 goals in the Bundesliga, making him the highest scorer of Leverkusen, while he also set up 4 for his team. The young sensation has had a brilliant campaign this year too, scoring 6 goals and providing 5 assists before the league got suspended.

Though Joe Willock has done well so far, he is yet to completely establish himself. Thus, signing Havertz would help the Gunners stock up their options to prepare for life after Ozil.

Verdict

Arsenal have lacked depth in the attacking midfield role, with Ozil being the only playmaker in the team. He is definitely out of form and considering his age, roping in Havertz could be valuable for the North Londoners. Moreover, the German is young and could get better under Arteta’s guidance in the future.
