Why Aston Villa should go all out to sign Divock Origi

According to The Sun, Aston Villa are considering a move for Liverpool and Belgium forward Divock Origi to bolster their attack next season.

Origi, 25, rose through the ranks of Genk and Lille’s youth system before joining Liverpool in the summer of 2014. The forward then spent time on loan, first with the French outfit and then with Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga. Since his return to Anfield in the summer of 2018, he has been a regular member of the squad but has seen limited opportunities.

He has featured in a few games where he scored the important goals and was also a part of the squad which won the Champions League last season and the Premier League this term. However, he has seen limited game time and thus, Villas should take advantage of his situation at Anfield and attempt to secure his services in the coming months.

Origi could be a leader in Aston Villa’s attack

At the moment, Villa lack quality in their attack. Brazilian Wesley Moraes was supposed to lead the attack but the former Club Brugge man fell victim to a major injury. Mbwana Samatta was signed in January and he got off to a good start, scoring on his debut. But unfortunately, that was the only goal he scored in the league this term.

Youngster Keinan Davis featured in 18 games but couldn’t find the back of the net. As a result, Villa managed to score just 41 goals, with Grealish being their top scorer. Thus, signing an attacker is a must in the summer.

In that regard, Origi would be a fantastic addition to the squad. The Belgian international has featured in 28 league games this term, though he has mostly come off the bench. But he has managed to score 4 goals and provide 3 assists. He has got some experience at the highest level and also played a key role in Liverpool’s Champions league-winning campaign.

His inclusion would definitely add quality to Villa’s attack, whilst also bringing healthy competition to the squad. He could go on to be their leader in the attack if he is able to continue with the good form he has shown in the last two seasons despite getting limited opportunities.

Verdict

At 25, Origi has a lot to offer in the future and moving to Aston Villa would help him feature regularly, which could be a boost for him ahead of next summer’s Euros. At the same time, Villa could also benefit from his presence.
