Why Barcelona should keep hold of Luis Suarez by handing fresh terms
According to The Mirror, Barcelona star Luis Suarez has opened the door to return to his former club after his contract at Camp Nou comes to an end next summer.
Suarez, 33, has established himself as one of the most lethal strikers in Europe ever since his days with Liverpool. A move to Barcelona helped him experience lifting several trophies and he has always been at his best for both club and country.
In the last 5 years, he has scored 15 or more goals in each of the seasons and stills remains to be a key player for the Blaugranas despite being above 30. He formed one of the most powerful partnerships with Lionel Messi and Neymar earlier in his career and thus, the Catalan giants should keep hold until he steps down.
Quique Setien’s side are currently on top of the La Liga standings with 2 points ahead of fierce rivals Real Madrid and are aiming for another title when the season resumes. However, they have not been dominant as they were in their previous title-winning campaigns.
One of the main reasons for their inconsistency is the lack of intensity upfront. Apart from star forward Lionel Messi, who has scored 21 goals so far, none of them have out in a match-winning performance and the absence of the Uruguayan talisman has formed a void in the attacking unit.
Summer signing Antoine Griezmann has failed to live up to the expectation and the La Liga giants roped in Martin Brathwaite in February to fill the gap left by Suarez. But the Denmark international has not been used regularly and they have failed to score in demanding situations. Thus, the manager should look to keep Suarez beyond the summer of 2021 if they are to dominate in Spain.
The former Liverpool man has never failed to impress in his time at Camp Nou and he has already racked up 11 goals and 7 assists before he picked up a major injury. His presence would surely guarantee the team with plenty of goals and could be a huge boost to the team.
Suarez has made nearly 600 career appearances and his experience would undoubtedly be helpful to the squad in their future endeavors. His intelligence has been valuable for Barcelona over the past few years and at 33, he doesn’t seem to slow down.

Verdict
Barcelona have lacked quality upfront and despite making a few signings in the past two transfers windows, Suarez has been their leader upfront apart from Messi. Therefore, they should hold on to him and this could be possible only if the club decides to extend his contract.
