Why Bournemouth should keep hold of Callum Wilson amidst exit links

According to The Sun, Bournemouth are looking to offload star striker Callum Wilson to raise funds for their summer transfer window.

Wilson, 28, who came through Coventry’s youth ranks, joined the South Coast club in 2014 and has established himself as one of their best players over the past 5 years. He has been the club’s top scorer in each of the last three seasons and has been an instrumental figure in their rise in the Premier League.

The English international still has three more years left on his contract at the Vitality Stadium and therefore, Bournemouth should keep him in their ranks.

Meanwhile, Eddie Howe’s men have struggled throughout the campaign and are at the risk of getting relegated to the Championship. With just seven wins in 29 games, they are currently 18th in the league table.

They have been inconsistent this season and have struggled to score goals. The attacking unit has managed just 29 goals so far and Wilson is their top scorer with 8 goals. Despite the team’s poor performance, he has been doing the hard work up front alongside Josh King.

Wilson, Dominic Solanke and Sam Surridge are the only centre-forwards available at the manager’s disposal. While the former Liverpool man hasn’t yet opened his account this term, youngster Surridge has featured in just one game and cannot be depended upon throughout the whole season.

The Cherries are already set to lose out on two other forwards in Jordon Ibe and Ryan Fraser when their contracts come to an end in the summer. With the rest of the attacking unit lacking confidence and consistency, it would be wise for them to keep hold of Wilson for a few more years.

The former Coventry man has scored regularly for the Cherries in each of the past five seasons. He was at his best last season, netting 14 goals and also setting up 10 assists. He has continued with the same form this term.

Bournemouth can do well with him as he is their main forward. He has been impressive for quite a few years and has also earned a place in the England national team in recent times. He has made over 230 career appearances in English football and could be key in the Cherries’ rise to the top next term.

Verdict

At 28, the Englishman still has the energy to continue at a higher level. His experience would undoubtedly be a huge boost for the team in their pursuit of greatness. Therefore, the South Coast club holding on to Wilson would be a wise decision.
